Pride St. Louis Statement on Dr. Paul Hruz

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(St. Louis, MO) January 16, 2020 – Pride St. Louis is issuing the following statement regarding Dr. Paul Hruz, M.D., Ph.D., forum entitled “Sex and Gender: In Light of Truth, Beauty and Goodness.”

Dr. Paul W. Hruz, M.D., Ph.D., an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Professor of Cellular Biology and Physiology at St. Louis’s Washington University of Medicine believes that children are being harmed by transgender treatments. Dr. Hruz also warns the public that child transgender therapy is “harmful” and “poor science.” Dr. Hruz proclaims when gender treatment enters in, the natural process is disrupted, causing lifelong damage and when most children experiencing gender confusion eventually work it through on it on their own. Dr. Hruz has been on several television programs, radio shows and lecture series disseminating his ideology and beliefs.

Dr. Hruz in collaboration with The CREDO of the Catholic Laity is presenting a forum on “Sex and Gender: In Light of Truth, Beauty and Goodness.” This Internationally renowned expert will speak on the critical and timely issue of “Transgenderism,” which directly impacts virtually every extended family. The forum is taking place Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the St. Anslem Parish Center.

It saddens us that this kind of ideology and forum exists in 2020. With all the medical advancements, numerous Transgender Clinics that have opened, and the overall willingness by the medical community to be educated and embrace the importance of Transgender Health, Dr Hruz is detrimental to that progress with his blurring the lines between religious freedom and medicine, this is totally unacceptable. Dr. Hruz’s transphobic rhetoric is dangerous to the Transgender Community, period. We as an organization oppose his ideology. We welcome any and all that would like to further one’s education on Transgender Health, including Dr. Hruz, to be open in hearing that the loud and strong voices of the Transgender Community and their Allies that Transgender Visibility is real and that Transgender Health is essential and a basic human right.

The mission of Pride St. Louis is to foster an understanding and tolerance of the LGBTQIA+ Community in the general population by raising awareness through educational programs and events leading up to the annual Pride Fest in St. Louis.
